Meet Guerdy

"Guerdy is motivated to run for Altamonte Springs City Commissioner by her passion for people, their needs, and the satisfaction of empowering those in her community."

Guerdy Remy is a clinical nurse, case manager, and advocate for her community.  As a COVID travel nurse, Guerdy assisted with the nursing shortage by traveling out of state to help critical-need facilities. She currently works in and around the Altamonte Springs area using her expertise to benefit frequently understaffed facilities.

Guerdy has spent many hours volunteering for her community since she moved to Seminole County in 2004. After the 2016 election, she pivoted to community activism working with several local grassroots groups to protect the most vulnerable, impacted, and disenfranchised in our community. She has served the Central Florida community at various church functions, schools, food pantries, and shelters.  She most recently helped to organize a special event to help those in need of housing assistance to apply for grants. She has also volunteered in Seminole County Public Schools and raised 3 children--all successful graduates of SCPS.

Guerdy decided to run for office after she was approached by three different people in one day, asking her for food assistance, money for gas, and if she knew a place where they could sleep that night. As an immigrant, mother, nurse, and engaged community member, this fight for a better, and more representative, city commission is personal for her.

Guerdy on the Issues:

Expand Affordable Housing

We must increase access to affordable housing, expand mortgage and rental assistance programs, and pass a Tenants Bill of Rights for renters. Everyone deserves the safety and comfort of living in a good home.

Prioritize Smart Growth

We need smart development that reduces traffic congestion, and prioritizes conservation strategies that protect our environment, natural resources, and public health. By investing in our local infrastructure, as well as, working with county and State lawmakers, we will make our city more inclusive, more attractive, and economically stronger.

Support Our Local Economy

Entrepreneurs and small business owners are a crucial element of a strong community. We need to reduce red tape that discourages new businesses from opening, explore creative ways to support entrepreneurs' access to financial capital, and prioritize planning and development that encourages new businesses to make Altamonte Springs their home.

Build an Inclusive Community

We must build an inclusive city that supports our community of long-time families and new arrivals. All people should feel encouraged to participate in our local government regardless of their race, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or disability. We must take steps to ensure our city leaders, and those in positions of power, look like and reflect our diverse and vibrant community.
